UP Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1953
Introduction The Uttar Pradesh Consolidation of Holdings Act , 1953 (U.P. Act No. 5 of 1954) is a significant law enacted to reform the agricultural land structure in the state. It received the President’s assent on March 4, 1954 , and was published in the U.P. Gazette on March 8, 1954 . The Act was created to reorganize fragmented landholdings into compact units for better agricultural development . Before this Act, many farmers in Uttar Pradesh held small and scattered pieces of land in different parts of a village. This made cultivation inefficient and time-consuming.
